hi,

i have a 2012 macbook pro 13inch - have replaced the original broken charger with one from ebay which was apparently made by Apple but failed after about 8months.

Can anyone recommend a decent replacement for a 60w magsafe 1?

thanks

Just buy an Apple one and do not wrap the cord tightly around the body of the charger. The one you bought on eBay was almost certainly a counterfeit.

^^^This. Agree with probably was a knockoff.

My original MagSafe charger lasted 9.6 years. Replacement was still going strong (1.5yrs) when the Mac died.

So, spend the money and get the real deal.

As for wrapping tightly around the body, never had issues (maybe not "tight"). And have also wrapped the cord like below, no issues.

I support a lot of users with Apple portable computers so I see a variety of ways that people abuse their chargers. By far the most common failure happens when people wrap the cable so tight that it is bent over right at the end of the strain relief near the body of the charger. Users who don’t pull the cable so tight there seem to have fewer issues.
