Replacing Casing of Macbook Air 13" (late 2010)

I have a macbook air with damages (very prominent scratches and edges have been chipped away) on the outer casing of the LCD screen. Since there is absolutely nothing wrong with the screen, will I be able to change only the casing and not the LCD screen. Apple support in India claims that I will have to change both the LCD as well as the Casing if I want it to be replaced, which becomes a very expensive proposition, which I quite frankly just cannot afford. Can somebody please help?:confused:
