On the other hand, our 2007 Macbook is running great since I replaced the HD with a SSD. But it's limited to 10.6.8. I keep wondering if the iPad 2 might help me delay getting a new MacBook...I would love to have iCloud photos, etc. running and don't really need a lot of processor power.

I'd seriously rethink getting the new MacBook. Sure it's a great laptop if your looking for something low power, won't see much usage, etc. But for longevity I'd think about getting the 13" Retina MacBook Pro. Sure it's not as portable, but it's a great laptop and Apple is selling multiple refurbished models online for less then the MacBook and are much more capable. That is, if your still looking for a laptop.

Ah, Best Buy. That's where I bought my shrink-wrapped "new" iPad2. It had someone else's data on it, e.g., FaceBook logon. I am not averse to buying refurbs, but not marked as new and not discounted. After I complained to the manager, they refunded me a small amount.

Most Best Buys are hit and miss. The one by me is a joke with customer service. I have bought 5 iPads since the beginning (yeah I know, lots of tablets!), 2 refurbs from Apple, 2 bought in store at BB and 1 at BB online. Never had a problem like this. Sad you had this problem, it shouldn't be part of the Apple experience. Should have been sold as open box.

I'm ordering one iPad Air 2 64 for me, one for my wife.

Great choice! I am actually typing this on my Air 2 and I can vouch for its awesomeness and power. You'll love the screen once you get it!

The iPad 2 was the first multicore iOS device and look at how long it lasted. The air 2 is the first tricore iOS device that has 2GB of RAM.

I use my iPad2 16 Gb a lot...I'm a psychiatrist, retrieve notes from Fileapp, send them to Pages where I type patient notes using a Zagg keyboard, save them to Windoze box via cable, also enter info into an app that helps me justify my billings to insurance.

The problem...memory is just about full, a few Mb left even when I trim out what I don't need, and it's slow at times.
I'm thinking of replacing the old dear with an iPad Air 1 32Gb, or a 2 64Gb (I guess the 2 doesn't come in 32).
I'd just as gladly buy the cheaper alternative, but...suggestions???

thanks in advance

You could find a cheap Nexus 7 or Nexus 9 - the one is the newest. You can find Nexus 7 for less than 100 at Amazon.

Good luck :apple:

Thanks, Badrottie. Beyond the fact that I'm pretty much an Apple Fanboy, the app I use for documenting what I've done so that insurance will pay is specific to iOS.

I put in my order today....anxiously awaiting the delivery! Powermax made me a pretty good trade-in offer for the old ones...

Get an Air 2. You will be future proofing yourself big time. You wont regret it one bit. Plus you are more secure with touch-ID and any sensitive patient information. Plus its the only device thats runs iOS 8 smoothly.

Thanks, Jonny and others. Our two iPad Air 2s, and bonus headphones and styluses, arrived from Powermax. I'm waiting to unpack until I can present hers as an early Mother's Day gift.

I think I made a good choice!

[p.s.: a little aside...stylus are 3rd declension in Latin, so plural would not be styli. My wife took 4 years of Latin, I took 2. When we met 45+ years ago, we each had a copy of Winnie Ille Pu. Romantic, no?]

Hi, I'm a mini 2 user. Same specs as iPad Air 1. I've been clawing for and craving an Air 2 because this iPad is so damn laggy and stuttery for being a year old. It's really sad. A lot of the UI with iOS 8 just drops frames really bad, and in Safari tabs refresh really bad as well as switching between apps due to the lack of RAM. The extra RAM also, believe it or not, helps with UI smoothness as the animations are cached in the RAM once performed. This is why you can for example, go a really long time without opening a folder with a mini 2/air 1 and it lags pretty hard the first time, but if you open and close the folder from there it's totally smooth.

Everything with the Air 2 flys and performs butter-smooth, but with the Air 1, it doesn't. The Air 1 is still pretty new, considering it's just a year old and people go 3-4 years before upgrading iPads, but this iPad Air 1 will NOT feel anywhere close to new. Spend the extra hundred bucks and treat yourself to a non underpowered iPad.

And yes people, I have tried multiple restores and set up as news, DFU restores, reset all settings, etc. nothing helps. All the issues I have encountered were able to be replicated on all A7 iPads I've ever used.

The iPad Air 2 is SO much more powerful than the Air 1. Yes to the Air 2!

I upgraded from the base model iPad 4 to the iPad Air 2, 64 GB, and I love how much lighter the newer device is. I'm also enjoying the larger space.

Sort of a closing note...we got our two iPad Air 2 64 Gb, and wow...they are really fast, light, smooth, etc. I don't think we really NEEDED them, but come on, most buying is about WANTING.

Just ordered two Trent Airbender 3.0 case/keyboards...all very exciting.

Again, my thanks for all the good advice.

Air 2 you want that laminated anti glare screen, trust. Only thing about air 2 is there's no mute switch, takes getting used to.

Wrong. Even the very good ipad 4 runs iOS 8 just fine. The Air runs it perfectly too. So does the iPad 2.

Just clearing that up for everyone.

Those aren't available to buy anymore. The question is which to buy of the current models. You do know iOS 9 will not run on an iPad 2. Nor will iOS 10 on an iPad 4. Apple only supports software on iOS for about three years. Get your facts straight. If you think iOS 8 runs perfectly fine on a 4 year old device....I'm sorry.

Def. Air 2 !! I upgraded from an Air 1 and the difference in performance is pretty significant!

My original comment was going to be that you notice the speed of the Air 2. But in actual fact, I think it's more accurate to say that you don't notice any lag with the Air 2. That may seem like a trifling difference, but the Air 2's response is simply more natural and immediate.

My suggestion is that you go buy a refurbished ipad air 2 with the most storage you can afford. I wouldn´t be looking forward to replacing my ipad 2 if I had bought it with more storage.

Definitely iPad Air 2.

Going by trends, Your iPad Air would probably be quite sluggish running iOS 9 if it is anything like iOS 8.3 .........
