I have an late-2014 13" Macbook Air that shuts down after a few minutes of battery power. The Coconut app readout looks like this:

When I click on the battery icon, it says "Service Battery." How big a deal is it to replace the thing myself as opposed to taking it to the nearest Apple Store?

iFixit rates the battery replacement as a difficulty of Moderate. Here is a link to their battery replacement guide:

About This Mac describes it as an early 2014 Mac, but gives its manufacture date as November 2014. I assume that there was only 2014 Air, and that the "early 2014" battery is still the right choice?

I replaced the battery on my Air with one from NewerTech and it was very pretty easy. The battery I ordered (from Other World Computing) came with the necessary tools too. It was just a set of tiny pentalobe screws on the outside, a few on the inside and then carefully prying up the battery connector to disconnect it. All in all, took about 20 minutes max, plus a few more hours for the battery charge/discharge they recommend at the beginning.
