I've tried to search around for an answer to this question but I've been unable to find anything.

I want to replace my MacBook SATA drive. So I bought a SATA drive and brought it home and replaced it. But I noticed that the right side of the replacement SATA drive is missing. On my current SATA drive (came with my MacBook) there are 4 prongs on the right side which what I think is the power source. So when I put in the replacement drive and booted it up it didn't become recognized in the OSX installation menu. Does anyone know if there are SATA drives that come without a power source attached?

Also I live in Japan so that might make a difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chad

Did you manage to connect any sort of power to it? Have you formatted the drive in Disk Utility? 🙂
