That's why I like my Beats Fit Pro best. I own both,4's (poor controls) and the BFP controls are fantastic with buttons that can be programmed. I have push and hold on the buttons set to increase or reduce volume. It is a super nice feature.
I'll investigate them. Do they respond to "hey Siri" and all that?

I was planning to return them on eBay, but when Apple phone support recognized the serial number and said they were still under warranty, I decided to send them in for repair. Haven't been to an Apple store. If these are fake, they should be given a nobel prize for design forgery since the airpods and case look exactly alike in every conceivable way to my previous Apple bought ones.
I too had a set of AirPods Pro 2 bought via eBay which had a recognisable serial number and was supposedly under guarantee until July 2025. I was advised over the phone by Apple Support to take them to the Apple Store who compared them with the real thing and declared that they were fake. They sent me a confirmation note. I've applied for a refund, registering that with e-bay. That was this week.

Feel welcome to contact me directly, especially if the serial number begins 'J17'

Very interesting. Could you yourself notice any difference with the real thing at the Apple store? Mine look identical.

My serial number is different, and I ordered the regular airpods 2 instead of the Pro 2. But given your story, I may just try and get a refund now and not even bother going to Apple with them.

Yes. The printing inside the case was different and the case hinges more robust, but it was a v good copy otherwise. The serial number was on a 'wanted/blacklist'

I can not detect a single difference. Assuming it's fake, it's really nice work!

I guess other wireless earbuds work with iPhone, yes? Can you use "hey siri" with those as well?

Is it me, is this literally an insane design move on Apple's part? (Not for the first time, either!) "Hey, instead of activating this feature with one quick tap of a finger, let's change it to require the use of two fingers on the model. This will make it both more cumbersome and much slower to skip songs, back up, pause, etc. Isn't that a great idea??"
I think the problem with just tapping with one finger was people were unintentionally triggering it. Like you move your hand to brush your hair away from your face, it catches on your AirPod, and oops you've skipped to the next song.

You mean the Beats earbuds? Yes, those work with Hey Siri. Earbuds from non-Apple companies, I'm not sure. Most of them do, but you should check with the manufacturer to confirm.

I can't recall that ever happnening. If it did, it was of such minor consequence as to be unmemmorable.

At first, my request for a refund to the seller for the fake AirPods Pro 2 was ignored - surprise, surprise. But then my request for a full refund from eBay was refused! I appealed, attaching the note from the Apple Store which clearly stated that it was not genuine.

Happily I've just received confirmation from eBay of full refund of £55.42 following an email in which they state that they have removed the seller's sale details.

To be fair to myself, I thought that with the upcoming AirPods Pro 3, there might be a stock of AirPods Pro 2s being shifted for a good discounted price.

However, "If it looks too good to be true, then ..." ;)

If I could buy 2nd generation airpods from Apple, I would. I just ordered some renewed ones I found on Amazon, so we'll see how those are.

Have these arrived & do they look genuine?

Refurb not available on apple/uk so I'm also weighing up buying via Amazon paying £189 for new - £177.66 for refurb also available from Amazon.

[Used via Amazon even cheaper but not being considered.]

All that said, I could just wait on the AirPods Pro 3 ...

My current AirPods Pro work well enough, it was only the hearing test/aid functionality that had prompted me to consider upgrading and tbh I think I'm doing OK.
