Hi.

Imac 27" 2011

The sound of the left speaker is very distorted. Both in OSX and Windows (bootcamp).
Sound via headphone output is fine.
That leads me to the conclusion that its a hardwareproblem and not a software problem.

Do you think it will be worthwile to tear the iMac apart and try to access the speaker?
E.g. Clean it for dust and trying to mingle with the cables and see if it fixes anything.

(I have installed an SSD back in the days, so I know how to take the panel off.... but don't really want to if its just a waste of time)

PS: I think it has been like this for a long time. But I rarely play music on the interal speakers. But I think I've noticed the distortion for some time both in the 'startup sound' and windows system sounds.

regards Lars

It probably end with that - or maybe just some better headphones.

TBH I'm probably mostly concerned about the resell value of a iMac with flaws.
