So the topcase of my Macbook has cracked again on the right palm rest. At the moment, it is being held on by tape. The bottom portion of the laptop, where the topcase meets the macbook body is also cracked. There is a hairline fracture from the far left portion of the laptop till the middle, where the indent starts for your fingers to go in to open the case and again where the topcase cracked. I have an appointment with the Genius Bar later today and was wondering what the chances are of them replacing the entire bottom portion of the laptop.

Probably not good my friend. Apple seems to be extremely "tight" when it comes to replacing and repairing Macbooks with physical damage. Unfortunately, they will most like say it has "cosmetic damage" which would mean that they will not repair it. Who knows though, maybe you will luck up. Make sure you're stern and let them know that you want them to replace it.

I've heard of repetitive stories involving the Macbook and cracking. Maybe Apple is aware of the issue and might cover it? In the worst case scenario; the money will probably come pocket and most likely the repair will be with a 3rd party repair shop (certified in your area). Good luck.

It does seem to be a common problem and I have heard of people getting them replaced outside of warranty. Worst thing you can do is ask and they'll say no...

I have a black macbook and had the same problem and Apple replaced the parts for free. $224 worth of parts and labor. Make an appointment with the Genius Bar and they'll take care of it. Looks like a brand new machine. I just got the keyboard, trackpad and bottom that was cracking. The top case was fine.

Thanks for the replies. Brought it in and they said that it was cosmetic and wouldn't budge on fixing it. They did replace the top case without an issue.
