Hi,
I have smashed the glass and broken the lcd screen so need to get it replaced. Its a late 2008 MB471LL/A unibody. Does anyone know if i have replace it with any screen that looks the same or does it have to be that specific modal? The later modals are so so much cheaper than the ones that have my modal number. Some people seem to say they are all the same and other people say they are different, what do you people think?
Also has anyone had experience with the ones on ebay? They say they are 'OEM' but im wary.
Thanks

Our price kind of sucks right now. I included some other vendors. I know for a fact OWC uses quality vendors for their screen products. 😀 🙂 😀

If yours is from 2009 that means you have the clusterf%#k of a wire running up the right side, inside of a ridge, right along the adhesive. This leads to your bluetooth and webcam. Be careful to not screw up that wire.

For what it's worth, the difference between OEM & non OEM is the dust inside, and the borders. The borders are never fully black on the knockoff glass, it's greyish in tone compared to the old. This is never noticeable unless you have them right next to each other. Most people look at the screen, not the black border anyway. The dust, if you are not doing this in a relatively clean room with a high powered air compressor, is going to seep in anyway. My point is if you do decide to go with some $20 thing with free shipping, it's not going to be a tangible difference. It may feel different if you get into the sub-$20 stuff, but again, you don't touch it.

you my as well buy a new macbook considering urs is from 2008!

That's insane. Most computers made from the time when dual core AMDs came out are more than powerful enough for 99% of what people do nowadays. A 2008 machine is more than good enough. Especially if he can fix it for forty bucks.

You're seriously suggesting that he "might as well" spend $ 1700 on a new MBP.... because his has $40 of damage to it. When we start selling computers, you'll be headhunted to be our salesperson. 😉

I don't think that cost $40. Probably still under $150 if you buy the panel and glass off eBay and replace yourself.

Yep, how much do you think a thin piece of glass costs?

You don't need a new display, just a new layer of glass.
