Report: Apple Asks Google to Run Siri on Its Servers

So abandoning the principles of privacy that make it stand out to chase scammy AI hype. Thats a no for me. Craig Federighi is absolute right about vetoing Google and whoever is chasing this AI train should look at the clown show that is Microslop.

If Google are running the show, or if the infrastructure is actually Google owned or maintained, then I have a very big problem with that because I have zero trust in Google.

Would I leave Apple? Not out of hand, no. But I would take every step possible to make sure that none of my data is going in that direction which would mean not using the new Siri services.

If it turns out that I don't have an option, and Apple forces me to start sending my data over to Google, data that I don't want Google to have, then yes, I would start considering my options. It might be painful, but I think it would be important to at least consider it.

Apple ditches Microsoft Azure, confirms that it uses Google Cloud for iCloud

In a document updated last month, Apple confirmed that it uses Google Cloud Platform to host user data for iCloud. Interestingly, the file no longer makes a mention of Microsoft Azure.

Apple has been using Google servers to store people‘s iCloud data since at least 2018, likely earlier. They also used and or are still using Microsoft and Amazon cloud servers to power iCloud.
And there is nothing sneaky or unknown about this, Apple confirmed it almost a decade ago themselves.
Write from Apple‘s own mouth in 2018, they use Google servers to store iCloud data.

Can apple just drop Siri and put Gemini on the iPhone natively at this point? I use the gemini app all the time, who cares at this point about privacy? every company already knows everything about everyone lol

Only because Apple arbitrarily restricts some things such and imessage and FaceTime while also choosing not to implement things like full RCS 3.0 which brings encryption and in-line replies for texts

People only stick with ios due to ecosystem lock in. Majority of things like notifications for instance are just better on Android

Wonder what Google's terms will be.

$50-$100 billion/year for the service? Chrome bundled with all devices (and can't be removed)?

What do you mean? Google has always been involved with the iPhone.
The first iPhone came with Google Maps, Google’s YouTube and Gmail support built-in through collaboration with Google. Google CEO even presented at the original iPhone event.
Plus there is that almost 2 decades old contract between Apple and Google to have Google as the default search provider within Safari, that dates back to the original iPhone as well.
Plus Apple has used Google servers to store iCloud data.
Not sure why people are acting like this is some type of new thing.
Apple works with Google, Apple works with Samsung, LG, Microsoft…

I stick with iOS and I promise you, iMessage and FaceTime is not the reason why.
never understood why it is so hard for some people to admit that Apple just, makes good products? And has an operating system that people enjoy using?
Like, yes, of course there is ecosystem goodies that exist when you have several Apple devices, but, not even every Apple user does. Some people just prefer Apple devices because they prefer them, no deeper reason than that.
I even know people who have android phones and Windows PCs… But have an iPad. Because they prefer it, and they like it.

I think in this case it's the opposite: Apple just makes the car (the server), Google (Gemini) is driving it. Apple just wants to save a few pennies by not renting the cloud resources from Google.

It's marketing. Marketing is never true. Also, Apple was harping about the on-the phone AI for two reasons:
- they did not know how to make it in cloud (they still don't)
- "privacy" remains the only marketing fluff that is still working for them.

Wow. Cook really hyped how everything from your iPhone to your Mac to the cloud servers would be running the same fundamental hardware (chip architecture).

And now they just let all the cloud property languish. Just seems like such a lost vision….

Hope you're right but Google and Facebook have shown over and over that they suck data when they're not supposed to. My first thought was "what could go wrong?" I trust Apple to ensure privacy while on Google's servers but do not trust Google at all.

Which is exactly why I don't use Apple's iCould services.

The central theme is Apple "Private Cloud Compute" data centers using Apple chips are not a good solution, hence Apple will be using Gemini at "Google's cloud infrastructure."

Also, this MacRumors article links to another source article titled. "Apple Discusses Google Hosting New Siri as Need for Cloud Help Grows."
