It's not going to happen. The pushback would be very embarrassing and there really is no compelling need for a change. I'm suggesting this is effectively click-bait. It worked though. I clicked to make this reply

The main use of the Apple Watch is for fitness. I suppose there might be folks that really need to be able to not have their phone on them but still really need to be reachable and make phone calls and texts. I’ve seen a few test cases where people use a watch only for a week. The other aspect is it’s good for children instead of an iPhone.

I still can’t get over how much of a blunder the unveiling of the Apple Watch was. It was presented as this whole fashion thing and “intimate” way to communicate. What a terrible and laughable premise. No one finds the Apple Watch “intimate” and no one thinks it’s “fashionable” in the slightest bit.

It’s good for tracking your steps and helping you find your phone and always be reachable though.
1) Actually my main use is to leave my phone at home when jogging, hiking or biking. My Series 8 does basically everything my phone does without the distraction of superfluous apps, but I get your point.

2) Agree completely. Apple wasted so much energy promoting it as a fashion piece when the reality is no one is going to invest $1000 on something that will be obsolete in 3 years. Even Apple as stopped pretending anything but the internals matter, as my Stainless Steel Series 8 holds the exact same trade in value as the Aluminum model of that line despite retailing for hundreds more.

The biggest issues with the Apple Watch are NOT the freaking bands... it's with battery life and buggy software. THAT is what needs to be addressed.

There is no way in hell I'm going to ditch bands that I am satisfied with, in order to use a newer watch that may or may not have a better battery and still may have a glitchy operating system.

And price increases on top of that!

Refocus, Apple. PLEASE.

When Apple goes on and on about their Environmental record, they need to include the fact that their policies are creating e-waste, which in this case - their new policy results in countless millions of Apple Watch bands that are no longer compatible. Where do all these unused bands go? Into the earth?

This is worse yet for the Hermes band/watch crowd...and Im one of them and I enjoy them, but man news like this always makes me nervous.😕

I was a daily Apple Watch user from the S3 release until last month. Mainly got fatigued with having to charge it daily, it being too bulky, not being able to wear other watches while I use the AW, the health sensors falling behind the competition, and it being another screen dinging at me and demanding my attention with notifications.

I recently got a Whoop and have been using it instead, now I can wear the Whoop either on my other wrist or on my bicep while I wear a regular watch. It gives me more insights than the AW does and I can actually wear it to sleep to get sleep insights (I found the AW too uncomfortable to sleep with), not to mention the 2-week battery life. It's a subscription model so we'll see how I'm feeling about that when it's time to renew, but so far I'm enjoying it a lot more. I still use my AW for outdoor runs since it's a cellular model and I don't like bringing my phone with me on runs, so that's the only advantage it still holds.

All this is to say that I hope that the new AW remodel has improvements to sensors and battery life. I doubt Apple is getting into the screenless wearable market so I'm not optimistic, but I hope I'm surprised.

WE DON'T NEED A NEW BAND SYSTEM! Thank you.

Millions of wrist bands going to waste just because of Apple's greed. So much for environmental awareness...
Are you saying that Apple needs to use the system they came up with the Original Apple Watch for all eternity?

And regarding the article:

“The timing lines up with how Apple has historically refreshed the standard Apple Watch's design. The original Apple Watch through to the Series 3 shared one design, the Series 4 through Series 6 shared another, and the Series 7 through Series 9 shared a third.”

Come on, let’s be real, Apple likes to mention how new Watch has a “all-new design”. In practice they are very similar, and you need to look at old and new watch carefully side by side to notice any differences. If the watch is turned off, noticing the differences becomes next to impossible.

I’d be so pissed if they broke band compatibility. I’ve got like 40 of them; I definitely wouldn’t want to keep buying more if I thought they could become obsolete with a new watch design. I’d get myself a S11 and ride it till the wheels fell off and then, who knows?

I hope this is as true as the last time the rumor bubbled up
I’m sure Apple will be happy to sell you a 200 $ adapter for your “obsolete” bands.

I'm holding on to my iPhone Pro Max 16 until the 20th Anniversary iPhone drops and I guess I am now also holding on to my Apple Watch Series 8 SS until the Series 13 drops. Nice that they will drop together.

People buy Apple branded bands?
Other than the band it came with, all of mine have been drastically cheaper third-party ones, all of which are fantastic.

When I eventually get a new Apple Watch, and it comes with a new system for bands, I have zero doubt the third-party market will have all the options I need.

There are only 2 things that could interest me in a new Apple Watch:

- longer battery life
- cheaper price for the full (non-SE) version

The second one is already out. The watch does a few things well but they are so few. App support is terrible. It barely justifies the price. And the only reason to upgrade is because the battery is so abysmal battery health degrades quickly. I’ll probably be looking for 3rd party alternatives if the new Apple Watch is just more expensive with Siri AI and no meaningful battery improvements.

If this happened purely for them to sell loads more bands I’d be annoyed.

However if they used it to make the battery life far better I might be able to get on board. Obviously it would also allow them to sell more bands, but at least we could get something out of that.
