I like Apple TV+. Its the only streaming service that looks 4K since the higher bitrate compared to other streaming services. It still cant touch a physical 4k Blu-ray disk in quality, especially the sound. But its a step up from the rest.

Notice how they never bump the included iCloud storage (or add to it per new device purchased) so you have to pay for iCloud+?

Is it more clear now why they offer no paid iCloud storage options between 200GB & 2 TB!?

The iCloud+ "business" is largely a racket

People are getting screwed, by design

No, not at all.

You can clearly see what you're paying for before you buy. So it can't be racket.
If what Apple charges isn't worth it, don't buy.

What's delusional on your part is expecting services and hardware from Apple to not be expensive.

I think the services growth is inflated by the huge amount of free trials given on services when buying new Apple devices. From memory, that revenue is effectively transferred from the device to the services category, meaning in some way, we’re actually overpaying on hardware in order to subsidise services that many of us don’t care about.

Only for services which Apple don't charge like Maps.

This is simple. Subscriptions are terrible and don't last. It worked in the beginning because of how few there were. With everyone wanting a sub for something, and with only so much money to go around, people are stopping the payments unless they really need it. Even then, there are many times other options.

The labels would not allow them to drop the price of Music too far. They are beholden to the majors if they pull their catalogue it is a wrap for a music streaming service

I know someone who used to work at one of the major labels and apparently a lot of people 'in the industry' think music streaming is very underpriced and some think it should be closer to £50/$50 per month!

The major labels are out of touch with reality then.

Apple Music is currently £10.99 a month in the UK. That’s £131.88 a year(!) and I yet own nothing I’ve listened to.

One thing Apple Music Replay taught me at the end of the last couple years is I listen to just a handful of artists.

I typically start a playlist from probably 5 or 6 artists, or from a couple of songs. Sometimes I’ll ask for “play 80s songs” and will get a playlist with the same 20 to 30 songs that just repeat every time.

I owned hundreds (probably thousands) of songs (let’s not mention iTunes Match messing up half my library). Loads of songs I listen to I already own. I have not purchased an album or single in about a decade.

It would be better buying an album once a month. It would cost less and I’d only have stuff I want.

Notice how pivotal iCloud+ is?

See why they screw everyone on base storage and component upgrade pricing?

I don't quite understand the correlation between iCloud and physical storage.

For example, my iPhone, iPad and MBA all have 256gb of storage. I pay $1 a month for 50gb of iCloud storage, of which I have used about 37gb. Mostly to sync photos, as well as back up my iOS devices. None of which has anything to do with the base storage of my Apple devices, nor is it saving me anything in terms of storage space (iCloud is used mainly to sync data, and they still reside on all my devices, taking up full space).

I am also subscribed to OneDrive and wish that they offered a similar plan to iCloud. Right now, It's a flat fee for 1tb of storage, but I don't use anywhere near that much (current have about 30gb of files / documents saved there). I wouldn't mind being given the option to pay a reduced / pro-rated fee for less storage. Otherwise, you can offer me 1tb or 10tb of storage a year; it's just a meaningless number after a certain point.

It's a similar sentiment with dropbox, which has been getting more expensive (and which led me to drop it for Onedrive).

I don't feel like I am being screwed or cheated in any way by Apple. My needs are fairly modest, and it feels like only Apple is willing to meeting me in the middle. If you are complaining about having to even pay for iCloud in the first place, that's an entirely separate matter, and I am perfectly fine with paying $1 a month for the convenience.
