If the Air ends up being a one and done it will save me a lot of money in the next several years. I don't ever want to go back to a thick heavy phone so I will use my Air until it dies. Looking at the other article today on this site with the upcoming phones (flip, fold, and anniversary) Apple has no upcoming phones I will want. Once again I will shift my focus to the Android world for my next phone when the time comes.

The release of the Air is the reason I still have an iphone today and not a Samsung S25 to be very honest.

1. Sophisticated people use earbuds and don't play audio in public
2. No edge distortion, barreling or chromatic aberration?
3. Battery life is great. Not everyone is a shutin.
4. Theoretical speeds aren't real life, the difference is minimal
5. This is a negative? Peak nitpicking
6. More battery consumption for minimal gains?
7. Not a necessity
8. A future update will enable this
who wears airpods 24/7? when i'm at home i'd rather not. it's so silly to me when people say "but in public!!"

Tim Apple will ensure it sees the same fate as the iPhone mini. It's too late for a phone like this at this price, and for lack of Pro features.

Same here! I have been a Pro Max user for many years. During this upgrade cycle, I wanted to downsize and go with a Pro. I ordered a 17 Pro and had been happy with it. Then I decided to give Air a try. Well, I ended up returning my 17 Pro and have been a happy Air user. It sits right in between Pro and Pro Max (screen-wise) while still being lighter/thinner than both phones.

If the Air had the option for capturing images in RAW, it would have been an instant buy. Guess I'll have to wait for the Pro/ProMax version next year.
Just download a damn app like Halide to capture RAW on ANY iPhone. Everyone acting like the Pro models are the only devices capable of RAW is total misinformation. Get Halide and learn how to edit. Done.

400 comments. Man, the Air has people really fuming one way or another. Seems like a lot of people want the Air to fail, as if that will somehow soothe whatever internal battle they have going on with the Air. I’ve never seen such hoping for a new product to fail. I mean every article regarding the air seems to be abnormally popular. If MacRumors and Reddit hate the air, that tells me it’ll be far more popular in the real world.

Every year is the same cycle. iPhone Pros dominate the first 60 days (enthusiast, iPhone upgrade program, early adopters etc) and in January March we’ll hear about how the Pros demand is diminishing and the “regular” or last years model is now selling the most. This isn’t new lmao

I think having a 'special edition' iPhone each year is a good idea.
However I do think Apple need to do some further work on getting the weight of the iPhone Pro down to something more manageable. And if large screens are the way to go then there becomes a point when the Pro Max is just a ridiculous solution (I think we are already then), and perhaps its at that point where the shift moves towards a foldable, because a phone is still primarily supposed to function as a phone and that requires one-handed use.

Compromises:
1. Single speaker
2. Single camera
3. Extremely poor battery life (due to thinness)
4. Inferior C1X 5G modem compared to SD X80 in Pro series
5. Too thin to hold.
6. Busted Wifi 7 that is incapable of 320 Mhz channel width on 6Ghz.
7. No mmWave which is in Pro models.
8. No display output via USB-C to an external monitor or TV.
9. Still USB 2.0 speeds for a premium device in 2025.
10. Slower binned SOC (again due to thinness and heat concerns)

Did I miss anything?

Price. $200 more than the base model without those compromises. That’s the biggest thing. The Air’s only spec upgrade (processor) over the base model is effectively negated by the binnned SOC. It costs $200 more for thin, light, and lesser. Thought it might have had more uptake among the image/fashion focused though.

Majority of the folks complaining about RAW images won't ever edit any photo. They just like to complain about the missing feature.

I think that Air is just the test run for the one half of the upcoming foldable iPhone... just waiting for a better half at this point.

1 less GPU core is negative and bad? The world is coming to an end!

I agree, the screen size is perfect for me. I am so happy I’m no longer carrying around a heavy pro model.

A fantastic phone, a beautiful device that fits perfectly in your hand, has perfect performance, and isn't a brick that could be used as a weapon to cause bodily harm.

Ive seen a number of YouTube Influencer videos on the iPhone Air, many with clickbait titles, who champion the Air over the Pro and Pro Max; caused me to pause on whether to seirously consider the Air - I have iPhone Pro 12, time to upgrade.
Sales reports now lead me to wonder if these content providers were paid and *encouraged* to promote the Air. To be clear, many of course are paid, but to say they are switching is different can of worms.

Happy to be wrong here, just wondering.

Have you used one? There’s a huge difference.
I've used/owned smartphones with a similar difference in weight (approx. 12 grams) between one model and another, and no, I experienced no difference in day to day use. Not even in the pocket of my gym shorts when working out, which is one of the better tests when it comes to weight.

On the other hand, there are lots of YouTubers with clickbait saying that it's a bad product. Absolutely not. I upgraded from the 13 Pro, and it's a perfect replacement. The battery is perfectly adequate, and I charge it every two days. Of course, I don't walk down the street trying to drain the battery. The funniest criticism for me is probably the mono speaker. I've never played a movie, music, or anything else on my iPhone without headphones, and I'm sure these guys have the same thing on their "Pro" phones, but now they've remembered that they have stereo :D.
