Reporting Spam From MR Members?

since joining i've been getting spammed left and right from macrumors members emailing me through my profile. is there a way to report these to the admins? the most recent was the common, "my father was a rich nigerian, help me by giving me your bank account, blah blah" bs. i've disabled the email option for now, but it would be nice if there was a link that came with all emails from macrumors members where you could send it right to someone who could take care of the problem. thanks!

But since then the political situation has been unstable, so therefore in order for us to save our life, I decided to contact you for you to help me and my sister to come over to your country, also you will help us in claiming our inheritance which my father kept for us, though he projected to use the money for the opening of an Industry in Asia, so now it is still under the custody of a security company and I have confirmed the existence of the box, the inheritance was some huge amount of money ($12.5million us dollars).

I wish to read your mail soonest, on getting your message, I am going to furnish you with all the legal documents including some photos.

My course of action. Ban this user for soliciting spam.
 
Contact one of the mods or site admins and they may be able to deal with it - you can find a list of them here. Unfortunately, the only real solution is probably disabling your email permanently.
 
Got one too... there really should be a captcha or whatever those things are called for sending emails to members... perhaps even PMs.
 
What y'all don't know is while you're whining about spam and the internet, I'm so moving to the front of the line. That money from the Ivory Coast is as good as mine!!! 😀
 
She's been banned.

I haven't received any spam from MR members but I've received a lot of it elsewhere.

I would suggest that anyone who has their primary e-mail address posted as their MSN Messenger name remove it. It has been visible to non-members.

Any member who wants to talk to you should be able to PM you for that information. Having PMs enabled isn't so bad.
 
I've been getting nuisance IMs recently, so I think I'm following your advice and removing my IM addresses. 🙁

I haven't really received nuisance e-mails.

What I get are really rude people who IM me asking me some question that has nothing to do with me, like the warranty policy on the MacBook. And if I ask them who they are, they tell me they don't know who I am. 🙄 And then get blocked.

I guess I should just not leave that door open.

I've had that, as well. I'm not sure where I signed up to be desktop support, but I used to be paid for such work. However, if people cannot even say "hey", "hello", "hi" or something other than "do you know how...?", they don't get my attention or respect.

Yeah, exactly. I don't really understand this mentality at all.

I think it goes along with the microwave oven/fast food mentality where you must have answers now. I always thought that you went to forums to read and reply, when appropriate. I've noticed a great many people who come and post threads, even when the first thread down asks the same question or the sticky thread at the top tells them the answer.

It's like going to the book store and people don't wait where it says "line forms here." If people can't read, why do they go to a book store?

Patience is a virtue, rushing it might get you banned. 😛
 
I've never recieved spam here. In fact, I've never even recieved a PM! But then again, I never asked for one.
