Face ID wouldn’t be nearly as annoying to me if I could set its requirement interval, e.g. require Face ID after 5 minutes.

Could be always, after 1 minute, even after 30 seconds.

It seems a little silly to require FaceID literally every time I put the phone down, look away for a few seconds, or manually lock it.

And I don’t want the screen to stay on, so changing the screen lock time doesn’t help.

I also don’t get the hardware button double tap to buy apps. What’s wrong with a Face ID then a “Confirm Purchase” soft button? I’ve never had to push a hardware button to buy anything on a phone until now. Seems corny and gimmicky. And I’m a lefty so it’s a pain.

I can only venture a guess and assume that they require a double press of the physical button so that there aren't any accidental clicks on screen, finger sliding over a confirmation button or something? Just an assumption. As for an interval requirement thing for Face ID, how is it any different than how Touch ID was with the previous phones? Any time your phone screen went dark, you have to authenticate it, be it with a digit or now with your face. Maybe future software updates with include a sort of Face ID timing customization but I doubt Apple would do that. Time will tell! :)

I agree. You had this option with Touch ID and it would be good to have it back! I always had it set to 6 hours and when I restored my iPhone X from a backup that setting carried over (take that alll you people that say restoring from backup has no ill effects). I changed it to immediately and then realised you no longer have a choice :(

I think you can set it to not lock when the screen turns off? But it will still lock if you manually press the side button. Might be a workabout compromise for your usage for now?
