Not sure if this has been addressed anywhere yet. I managed to get a successful appointment for in-store pickup of the iPhone 6S Plus under the iPhone Upgrade Program on 25 Sep, but now have to travel out of the US on that day. Does anyone know if I could do the paperwork before that date and still have the phone reserved for pickup when I come back, or will Apple put the phone back on the market after 25 Sep?

Thanks in advance!

Thunk you'll find the answer in the email that Apple had sen you for the reservation. Quoting anyway..
"Can I change or cancel my reservation?
You can’t change or cancel your reservation online. However, if you’d like to change the model you reserved, a Specialist can check the availability of a different iPhone when you come in at your scheduled time. Due to high demand, the availability of some models and reservation times may be limited."

I wonder if you can pre-pay in store (before the 25th) to guarantee your unit is held for a few days. This would be a great option to avoid the crowds or if you are out of town

Not a chance. Their systems surely wouldn't allow them to sell the phones before 9/25 even if they wanted to, which they won't.

Just visited the store location, and also got off the phone with an Apple agent.

The store can't do anything about it - no paperwork can be filled out beforehand, and they're only authorized to process what the Apple online store passes to them on 25 Sep.

The Apple rep pretty much validated this. I can't authorize anyone else to do the credit check since it's required as part of the iPhone Upgrade Program, and the phone also has to be activated with one of the 4 carriers at the point of reservation. No way to separate credit authorization and physical phone collection.

For info, if anyone else happens to be out of town too. (I'll be in Canada, argh.)

According to my local Apple store, the reservation only holds your iPhone for 3 hours, then released for sale

When I asked in my local Apple Store the other day they said the phone is only held for the time slot you selected and it's put back into walk in stock if you don't pick it up. I'm in the UK but I would think the pre-order precess is the same.

Unfortunately I'm in the same boat, except my problem was being half asleep at 3am in the morning. I thought the 25th was a Saturday (Why have preorders open Saturday and launch on a Friday when everyone's working?). Anyways I went to the store and they told me that process is entirely new to them, and at the moment they couldn't change the time. I just need the time changed, not the date. They told me to check back in a few days when they'll likely have access to those things. I can't imagine why you can't simply change the time, considering ANYTHING can happen, even on the way. Traffic, accident, etc.
