I have an old trusty A1466 model MacBook Air that my wife accidentlaly poured a glass of water into. It no longer boots up nor charges. I've opened it up and pulled out the SSD. Here's my question:

What is the best route for trying to rescue the contents of that drive (has two users). Should I buy a comparable A1466 used and swap it in or is there another computer in which that SSD would be compatible or a service that would pull the data off?

Apple store was zero help. They called the laptop "vintage".

Not my main concern but what would I likely need to replace in order to make this computer operational again after a shorting out caused by water?

An external enclosure is your bes bet, then you can keep using the drive
or if its a 2012 model

Unless you have access to a reputable Mac repair shop locally, or can mail it somewhere(Rossman Repair now in TX), if you want to stick with your current model and want to attempt to see if the SSD still works, get another MBA of same year and see if the SSD will work in the new one. That's what I did after I spilled wine in mine. Fortunately the SSD was still good. Trashed the box. Or you can do what "world virus" suggested and get the OWC enclosure and connect to a different Mac and see if it will read it. I think you gotta pay attention to the model-year on both for compatibility.
