If I were to believe the plots, my iPad has been more places than I have taken it. It does, however, accurately present the general vicinity with larger circles.

It says I have been in Vegas, I haven't been to vegas since the early 90's. Fail

So how would I go about encrypting this backup file on my Mac?

Don't rely on encryption to protect you in any way. The police can crack it, as can hackers, and they can simply demand with a court order that you give them the password. Then you're forced to essentially testify against yourself. No, pleading the 5th won't help.

Apple goes to all sorts of lengths to protect media files with FairPlay, yet they don't care about stuff like this. Shows where their focus is; protecting their own stuff and not giving a flying f--- about the user.

Apple has never cared about the user, this is not news. Apple only care about one thing: money

As for being tracked, I couldn't care less. In the UK, there are so many CCTV cameras, you can't do anything without it being recorded. No point getting upset about it...

LOL at everyone freaking out!! So Google can take pictures of your house, back garden, car etc and post them for the entire world to see without asking you first, Facebook would sell your soul for profit if it could, and your worried about Apple tracking your phone, most likely for it's Find My Phone feature? hahahaha.

LOL best post yet

So how would I go about encrypting this backup file on my Mac?

1. Connect to iTunes on your laptop/desktop.
2. Go to your iPhone in the list under devices in iTunes page.
3. Under "Options" choose Encrypt iPhone backup.

Good luck to you remembering where you were at any any time up to a year ago, I couldn't. Just remove the info on a regular and frequent basis, Phoneview or similar should find the files on the phone itself for you to remove.

Has to have some back and forth that could be tracked.

Incorrect. You're confusing it with a location device. However as traffic receivers become more pervasive and ask you to report back for data. Yes.

Gps by default is not 2 way as I understand it.

What does this even mean? "Apple has never cared about the user?" Perhaps you can teach us, then, how Apple has enjoyed so much success despite "never caring for the user."

Or was it simply fun to write those sentences?

WOW this is a major privacy breach.

This PROVES Apples an EVIL ENTERPRISE.

THE WORST BY FAR!

So damn hypocritical - accusing Google, all the while they're doing the same damn thing behind the backs of their supporters.

Personally I was aware long before this article, but I refused to reveal it since Apple's minions would have thrown tantrums of denial.

While I don't like it, the fact is ALL TECH COMPANIES do this.

Privacy was a thing of the past, long ago. Don't kid yourself, if you've used a computer in the last ten years its already too late. The only "new" development is geo location.

Welcome to the future, today.

so the program can not find the file. Does that mean my iPhone isnt tracking me?

I was just about to post the same thing; the application says that it couldn't find the consolidated.db file. I even tried syncing my iPhone once more and it still didn't help. An interesting note though - I own a Verizon iPhone. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

**** it, gonna take my g/f's iPhone, delete the contents of that file, and make it unwrightable. (i dont have an iPhone now)

One more reason to long for a jailbreak on my iPad 2 so i can fix this privacy issue!!!!

Edit: if the iDevice ****s up if you cant wright to this file, simply symlink it to /dev/null (or what ever the osx alternative is)

Apple does not care about us, they just enjoy us lining their pockets full of cash. They get us hooked on using their products and we go and buy more and more of them. They just enjoy getting our money, like any business.
