I'm planning on preordering the iPhone 4S but I have never done a reservation.
To better explain, when the preorders are open, is there an option to pay the $300 and have a reservation so i can pick up at my nearby Apple Store?
So that way when October 14 comes, I would just have to wait in line until 8:00am and pick it up instead of waiting for delivery

when the preorders are open, is there an option to pick it up in a store.

I don't believe we the public know whether this will or will not be an option this time around. It might be, it might not be. I believe this did exist previously, so it may very well exist this time around, but until preorders are open or Apple says specifically they will do this it's kind of difficult to know.

Depends where you are from - I spoke to o2 (UK) and they said I will be able to pre-order and pick up from a local store.

Edit - Guess it also depends if you mean picking up from Apple store or a network store... I'll be able to pick it up from the o2 store. Not sure about Apple stores.

This never existed from Apple. It was called a reservation, not a preorder. It basically meant that you had up until when the store closed on that day to buy your iPhone. According to a manager at an Apple store I spoke with yesterday, they are no longer doing this.

It'll probably be easy and faster just to pre-order and get it delivered. You should get it 1st thing in the morning and no later than 3. Plus you know the lines are going to be god awful crazy especially with steve passing a lot more people will probably buy them. I personally am going to pre-order 2 and have them shipped. If im lucky ill get them the 13th but no later than the 14th.

I pre-ordered my 3GS at the store and picked it up in the AT&T store. Yesterday I stopped at my local AT&T store (NY) and asked if I could do the same for the 4s. They said I can pre-order it in the store or online, but it has to be shipped to my house - I can't pick it up there. :(

I spoke with my local ATT store this morning. They, too, said that even if the pre-order is done in store, it still will be shipped to your house.

I also spoke with an Apple retail specialist today and he said they are not doing reservations, so your options are currently either preorder & delivery or first come, first serve instore pickup.

damn, its impossible to know how many my local Apple Store will have on that day. I guess I'm better off ordering online. If I were to pick it up, I would probably have to get up 4 in the morning.

Yea I would like to go for in-store pickup, but living in San Francisco, that's gonna be a LOOOOOOONG line.

So typically we see shipped orders received on day of launch correct?
