Just wait till  change the spec on that diagnostic port / watch strap for version 2  lol

I guess I shouldn't mention my link band that I bought with my SS watch. :D

During the month long wait for delivery (since Apple botched the launch), I kept thinking that maybe spending as much on the band as the watch was too much. Now that I have had it on my wrist for a month, I have no regrets. It is beautiful, functional, and comfortable.

I have thought of buying a rubber band (no pun intended:p) for when I am exercising, but this band is not that good looking in my opinion. Functionally, this seems like a great product.

I skipped the non-sports bands because of price... I have no regrets about that choice either ;) (I used the quite large sum I saved myself there (link bracelet was the only option I liked) to put new rain spouting on the west side of my house.)

If this power band was a bit better looking (think: less 1980's casio) I'd probably up my buy-at price...

I take it you've not visited eBay recently...

While I do use eBay for some things (like electronic components, etc), I'd never use it for something I'd actually wear against my skin. Too many unknowns in that as far a toxic chemicals. I'd also be worried about the strap not being mechanically perfect and it letting loose of my Watch.

Yes, that sounds like a dichotomy of my own making, but I don't just buy the cheapest of what I'm looking for without regard for quality. I look to the cheapest items to drive down the price of the over-priced (IMO) but still good quality items.

I'm definitely not going to fall for Apple's insane band pricing "because: Apple". But, I'm not going buy the cheap junk either. Right now it seems the happy medium is still sitting north of what I want to pay.

This makes no sense... You routinely charge a watch but not your phone?...

I know what he means, i've had similar situations. The watch is my wrist all day/evening. At night, I take if off when I go to sleep and put it on my nightstand - this is where it is charged. Then I go to sleep.

My phone is sometimes in my jacket pocket, in my bag, on the table by the living room, kitchen, etc. I often just go to bed and forget to charge it.

So summary, the watch is usually taken off once.. and that is where you put you charger, the while the phone is on and off your person all day and placed in various locations, so it's easy to forget to charge.

I guess I can see that. Personally, my iPhone is the clock on my nightstand. Propping it on my nightstand, plugging it in, launching my clock app of choice, and setting an alarm for the morning is part of my nightly routine. And as someone vision impaired, this will be my nightly routine for the forseeable future. I can't imagine using the Apple Watch as a clock without my glasses on - I have enough of a problem reading the 6+'s screen when all it displays is the time. There's no way the Apple Watch displays it large enough for me to read.

Is this accurate? I thought that Apple has not opened the accessory port to third party developers.

I think they can't guarantee this until they are Apple accessory certified. And I doubt Apple will certify them using the port that requires prying off the cover... So I'm curious how this claim will survive the test of time. Maybe they have been in touch with Apple and gotten preliminary accessory approval. I haven't heard any claims of that however.

$249? LOL. With another $100, you can get a second Apple watch to end up with 36-hr battery life: doubled battery life, better resale value (2 vs 1 watch), not void warranty, still waterproof, uninterrupted usage (1 charged, 1 used alternatively), variation (2 different colors for watches and bands)...

Apple Watch: Starting at $349.99.

For the measley expense of roughly 70% of that, you can double the battery life!

Just like those people that spend upwards of $100 for a phone case. I don't get the point of a case that costs so much it is a big deal to ruin it. I guess at least with this band there would be less chance of breaking it. :/

i thought you could only pair one watch at a time? in that case it's hardly uninterrupted usage if the changeover takes 10-15 minutes or more.

The design is clever, but it's pricey for what it does. Also, if you want it for situations where you'll be away from electrical outlets for more than a day, you'll also need to keep the iPhone charged, since the watch depends on it for so much of its functionality.

Yep, with Apple's insanely priced bands you can expect prices for other bands to be insanely priced too. I don't expect to see widespread sub-$30 "cheap" bands anytime in the next 12 months.

apples prices on the bands aren't insane. if you were familiar with quality men's watch bands you'd see that apples prices are in line and even good. the leather band is terrific.

agreed. a 25cm watch charging cable, a short lightning cable and a battery pack would probably serve me better. if only apple did one shorter than 1m long.

I can hear the lawyers licking their chops now as they ready the class action lawsuit. “My watchband burned me and now I can’t work and am disfigured for life.” Wait for it.

My watch only lasts 3 hours when I go on long bike rides I am a bit disappointed in battery life to say the least. they push the athletic side of the watch heavily yet its only for someone who doesn't work out very long. My workouts last more than 5 hours sometimes.

I myself don't see the point if people are getting good battery life. I am interested though in hearing what having that port open and used by the band does to the waterproof rating. Has anyone seen anything saying that Apple would deem the warranty void for messing with that port? That would suck to have that happen just so that you don't have to charge the watch at night.

Yeah the price is just plain wrong. I could see this being a cool add-on for vacations and other trips where power might be a problem, but at a price like this, it's not going to happen. Especially not, since power is not a problem in the daily going.

see quoted post bellow. Its just a watch strap with a battery in. The pricing is stupid. They act like they designed a ****ing rocket ship.

... 1. If it's so easy, then why don't you do it and undercut their price?
2. If you don't like it, then don't buy it.
3. What's with the hostility towards people who made something, and are selling it to people at the price they want? If people think it's too expensive, then they won't buy it, and then they'll have to lower prices. If they do buy it, then they must value it a lot more than you, and what's wrong with that?

I'm not having any issues with battery life either. I take it off around 9 PM, let it charge for an hour and put it back on before bed. I've never run out of battery charge and I've had it on during several 1 hour+ cycling rides (which are supposed to drain the battery doing heart rate checks).

Same thing here except running. I love how they made a huge negative buzz about battery life, and then just totally annihilated expectations lol. So much win.

personally, i don't see the point. i usually have about 50% on my watch left, when i go to bed, so i charge it over night. 30 extra hours would give me another two days, so i'd have to remember to charge it every three days or constantly watch the battery (or have the battery complication). charging it every day seems easier to me, i'm less likely to forget that - i don't think, it makes much sense to have a longer battery life unless it's drastically longer (say, one month). but if you're among the minority who often takes 2 day camping-trips over the weekend, it sure makes sense.

Yeah, I'm familiar with quality watches. No, the prices are not in line with reality. I've tried on Apple's leather band... not impressed at all.

The first iteration looked like something Apple would have designed in the 90s. The second looked like something Sony would design now. The third looks like something you'd find at Walmart. The wrist connection part is improved but going all black rubber instead of shiny metal really cheapened the look. I wonder why the change. I don't see an explanation on their blog. I can only assume it was for manufacturing costs.
