Capcom's Resident Evil 3 has debuted on Apple devices, making it the fifth Resident Evil title to arrive on Apple's mobile platforms.

The survival horror shooter is available as a free download with a limited part of the game being playable, after which players must purchase the full game to continue. The good news is that Capcom is running a promotional discount of 67% off the usual price for a limited time.

We're having trouble accessing the US App Store right now. But in the UK App Store, from now until April 16, the base game can be purchased for £8.29, while all in-game rewards can be unlocked for £1.69. After that date, the game will be sold for £24.99. Expect approximately equivalent US prices.

Here's Capcom's plot description for the game:
A series of strange disappearances have been occurring in the American Midwest within a place called Racoon City. A specialist squad of the police force known as S.T.A.R.S. has been investigating the case, and have determined that the pharmaceutical company Umbrella and their biological weapon, the T-Virus, are behind the incidents—though they've lost several members in the process. Jill Valentine and the other surviving S.T.A.R.S. members try to make this truth known, but find that the police department itself is under Umbrella's sway and their reports are rejected out of hand.

However, soon reports of a grisly "cannibal virus" begin to surface, and vicious dogs begin roaming the streets. With the viral plague spreading through the town and to her very doorstep, Jill is determined to survive.

However, unbeknownst to Jill, an extremely powerful pursuer has already been dispatched to eliminate her.
Resident Evil 3 requires an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 series model to run, along with iPads and Macs equipped with an M1 chip, A17 Pro chip, or later. The game supports cross-progression across supported Apple devices, so players can continue their progress whether playing on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. It's also a universal purchase, meaning a single purchase grants access across all compatible Apple devices.

Capcom says the app is approximately 31GB in size, and that the installation process requires the target drive to have at least twice the size of the app in storage space available. An internet connection is also required to start the game. Resident Evil 3 can be downloaded from the App Store.

Brilliant game, played the remake on my PS5. If you haven't played it you're in for a treat.
Play RE2 before going for RE3, its available as a remake as well.

Oh....and get good headphones for a better experience. When you're finished with the game check your heartbeat stats :-D

I like how Capcom is legit the only company that did not gave up on “Mac Gaming”
The onus is more on Apple to make the porting viable and painless for other companies.

I am sure other companies take note of Capcom's approach and if viable will slowly come, that is if their market research sees a return of investment.

Also note that companies might not be able to port due to lack of knowledge and or manpower. That's why I said that Apple needs to make the porting (and tweaking) process as easy as it can get. I have no clue how the files need to be presented to be ported.

I don't know if Apple already achieved this. Apple also might entice new ports just by throwing some cash around or even helping with the ports themselves.

Can't remember the last time I bought a game on iPhone. iOS trashification of games--paying $ to unlock lootboxes and chasing gold coins mindlessly--just isn't my cup of tea.

I guess it's a good thing Apple increased the iPhone 16e base storage capacity to 128GB instead of keeping it at the iPhone SE's 64GB. And requiring an iPhone 15 Pro or higher means this game needs 8GB memory to run.

Let's all take a moment to thank Artificial Intelligence and games (AAA games specifically) for forcing Apple to increase base memory and storage.

31 GB! Now I'm starting to worry if my 1 TB MBP was enough. I'm using 560 GB already but it's not able to calculate the different categories so it may be incorrect.
This is a port of the RE3 remake that launched in 2020.
I remember playing Resident Evil when I was younger. So I'm guessing 3 came out many years ago. Is the remake just a refresh with the same game play?

It's not a 1:1 port and more on the action side of things. While I have not played the PS1 version myself, others report, that some content had been cut. It is more streamlined.

For what it's worth, you can also get Resident Evil 2 Remake on iOs, which started the whole Remake. For PC you currently can get up to 4 as Remakes, with 2 and 4 being more faithful in sense of scope (even here they streamlined some parts). If you want fresh one, a Resident Evil IX had been announced, but no detailed news as of yet.

I downloaded it and will check it out. I don't play many games but I'm curious how it'll run on my 2020 M1 MBP.
