ResMed, a company known for medical devices like CPAP machines, today announced the launch of the Kontor Head Strap, a new accessory designed for the Vision Pro.

The Kontor Head Strap was created to balance softness and support for extended wear time when using the Vision Pro. ResMed says that it uses "ultra-premium" materials that are gentle on the skin, with the device offering six modular counterweights to better balance the Vision Pro's weight on the head.

"Over the last 35 years, our team has constantly pushed the innovation boundaries to create life-changing health technologies that people love," said Justin Leong, Chief Product Officer for ResMed. "With our deep knowledge in engineering head-worn products, we are excited to bring our expertise to designing lightweight and comfortable facial interfaces to the Apple Vision Pro community through the Kontor Head Strap."
The Kontor Head Strap was created from thousands of 3D head and facial scans to provide comfort and stability to Vision Pro wearers. It is available in two sizes, including standard for users that wear a medium or large Dual Loop Band, and small for users who wear a small Dual Loop Band.

Apple is selling the Kontor Head Strap for $120, and it will arrive to customers starting in January. More information is available on ResMed's website.

This looks awesome. The magnetic counterweights could be the game changer along with the three point weight distribution.
Counterweights involve adding to the total weight to try and balance it out - hopefully it doesn't add more strain to the wearer, next up would be wearing it in an anti-G segment of the ISS.

It immediately made me think they'd grabbed the wrong file from the image library. Surely that is a sort of truss - as in a surgical appliance?

Everyone's anatomy is different, but I think I am not alone in the idea that spending $120 more b/c the beautiful but not very ergonomic original straps basically put all the weight on the cheekbones, basically making usage good for about 1 hr in my case (others vary, but many seem to share this experience, you don't feel it at first, but after a while...). In the grand scheme of things on a $3k device, sure, NBD, but wish a bit more attention was paid to the ergos up front.

Anyway, the Globular Cluster 3rd party headgear (b/c that's definitely what it is!) is very nice in terms of ergos but is huge, fits in no case, and is pretty low quality build, so I hope this will function as well and prove more packable.

Ordered it, mid Jan delivery which makes sense given they're probably just hitting production.

It cost like $5 to make these in a chinese factory, the other $115 is for the payrolls of the $200k TC "product managers" in the bay area who came up with it
My guess would be that the huge margin is to make up for the risk that these don't sell. They'll have to recoup the costs of tooling up for a dud of a product.

If it were a guaranteed seller, you'd see others competing at a much lower price. The fact you don't see other stuff like this is because nobody else wants to take that risk.

TBH, it does not look very comfortable compared to Annapro-style (or Bobo-style) bands, which mount further forward and rigidly. Basically a better version of Dual Loop, which is fine for an hour or two, but not for longer sessions.

It does not look like you'll be able to run AVP without Light Shield, so you'd still have way too much pressure on cheekbones and forehead.

P.S. If the mount is rigid, that might be a whole another story, gotta wait for the reviews, I guess.

That looks completely insane, and will probably result in the world's worst hair days, but will probably distribute the weight and pressure very well. Interesting, if nothing else.
