I am running Mac OS 15.0.1 on an M1 Max Mac Studio. Since buying a Samsung Odyssey G7, I have had problems with the system reverting to absurdly low resolutions.

Initially, I used Switch Res X and that solved the problem. But, now the problem has come back. I registered SRX, but now, it no longer shows a list of higher resolutions.

The Displays control panel only gives me the options of 1920x1080 and 1280x720. When I go into the General control panel, the computer thinks that I am running a 12-inch display. When I tried adding the correct display in the Displays control panel, it instead mirrored my display in a letterbox format across the center of the screen.

Please help! What can I do to fix this?

Have you tried a different hdmi cable? I would try this first to make sure your cable isn't the problem.

I've found Apple's implementation of hdmi my M1 machines to be very quirky at times. I would recommend trying to connect to your G7 using Displayport. You can either use a Thunderbolt hub, usb c hub, or a usb c to Displayport dongle with an existing Displayport cable, or you can buy a standalone usb c to Displayport cable.

Try a different HDMI cable. Get one specifically stated "HDMI 2 high-speed" (or similar).

Try a USBc cable. If it works, use that instead.

I just got a Displayport-to-USBC connector and I still have the same problem.

Can you test the display on a different computer? That way you can narrow the problem down to either your Mac or the display itself.

Could the problem be coming from the wrong "internal" setting on the display?
Have you worked through the display's menus to check?
