As stated in the thread title already, I'm looking for the default hard drive icon .icns file in macOS Sierra. In earlier versions of OS X, it was along with all the other default icons in /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/, but unless I'm completely blind, the default hard drive icon is no longer there.

Has anyone an idea where that file is located now?

Yes, it is here in Sierra (and El Capitan):
    /System/Library/Extensions/IOStorageFamily.kext/Contents/Resources
