Hi folks, I deal with this guy all the time on another message board. We agree on lots of things, but when it comes to Macs vs PCs he annoys the hell out of me.

How would you respond to this?

My new computer isn't done being setup at my new job, so I'm having to use a Mac...totally reaffirming to myself what a ****ing piece of **** they are. Ever heard of "right-click" you ****ing idiots???? It's REAL useful. Seriously...let's not not just have a Control button, but a separate "Command" button that does what the Control button should. Let's not have a Delete and Backspace button, but 2 Delete buttons. And to top it all off...let's make everyone move everything to the Recycle Bin instead of being able to Shift + Delete. And don't even get me started on this One Button Mouse ********. OS X is the biggest Windows ripoff since the one before it...only Windows is 10000000x times easier to use in every way.

Macs = hard to use pieces of **** more concerned with looking like stylish furniture than being functional.

Here's my response:

That's right, just because you don't know how to use something that means it's not functional.

Command delete = move to trash (yes it's trash, not a recycle bin. I don't want to use it again, I want to throw it away)
Command shift delete = empty trash
(these keyboard commands are spelled out for you right in the finder menus)
You want to right click, plug in a two button mouse (yes it's that simple)
The hatred of the keyboard layout works both ways, I like having two delete keys because I'm used to it.

OSX a Windows ripoff? Puhleaze....

Again, how would you respond? I don't want to be argumentative but jeez.

Thanks!

What is this, 1999? Do people still have these silly arguements? Ignore it and move on.

Welcome to the Internet. This debate has raged on since the mid nineties (if not earlier), and it will never end. Ever. Nothing they say will change your mind, nothing you say will change their mind.

Great way to kill an afternoon though :)

Just tell him he's simply uneducated because he's never taken the time to gain the experience and do things that are sensible, like plugging in a 2 button mouse, or learning how powerful keyboard shortcuts can be when they MAKE SENSE not like in windows... ALT+F4, YAY LETS ALL REMEMBER THAT!

Or you could take the opinion that he's an unintelligent troll and be done with it.

I really hate it when people curse OSX because after years of using Windows, things don't work how they expect them to. Best to just ignore them and continue to enjoy using OSX yourself.

Ask him what kind of virus scanner he used on his old PC. And spyware scanner. Or adware scanner... Maybe he liked those so well he used them all??

And I'm surely curious how he found out OS X is a Windows ripoff. Was it his sharp mind? :D

We Mac people have manners so we ignore the idiots and we move on with my great lives.

One button mouse? What model is he using. the ones that came with the colored iMacs years ago? My mighty mouse (which is now the standard mouse for macs) can be set to right click with the right mouse button.

Also all he's complaining about is the lack of a couple of keyboard shortcuts. I'd gladly put up with that if it meant having a computer that doesn't need to be virus / spy / adware checked, a computer that boots and shuts down faster, a computer in which deleting / installing things is just so much easier and it's harder for programs to leave traces on the computer after being uninstalled (since no company is motivated to write windows uninstallers that work well), and whatnots.

But yeah, I'd ignore him. Some people like to make life hard for themselves, just so that they have an excuse to complain =D

EDIT: Oh, and I had to crack up when I read the part about OSX being a Windows ripoff. Then at the very latest his cluelessness becomes evident.

Folks, the guys problem is that he isn't used to use a computer that can do so many tasks and don't have to curse it two thousands times!!!!:D

he appears to be complaining simply because it's not the same as windows; there's no point having a discussion about that.

I love how people still bring up the 1-button mouse thing even though the standard apple mouse now has 5 usable buttons.

lol...i used to have this argument with people at uni

now they all have macs:confused:

ah well...just get on with using your mac...you and i know that using a mac is so easy, so why not enjoy it :) i am...and cannot see myself using anything less than a computer running tiger (leopard is awesome, but tiger is also awesome, and i don't mind using it)

EDIT: YouTube 'Triumph of the Nerds'...it's a 3 hour documentary in 18 parts...quite cool actually

I had the same problem when I got a Mac, I was a Windows user, infact still a Windows user, but not so much now, anyway I just got used to Macs, I mean Spaces is pretty cool, although I don't know why Msn for Mac still isn't Live...

Its really quite pointless to argue about Macs vs Pcs, you don't really get anywhere, both are good to me

I am new to the mac and I have to say that the hardest thing for me is everytime I ask someone how to do something I am given a slew of keyboard commands. I am used to point and click... I feel at times like I should just use CLI.

I mean no offense to the mac users here and I am not trolling. It is just something I will have to get used to. I can see how windows converts might have an issue or two though.

That being said, I do like my new macbook alot.

^ you will get used to it :). you are given lots of keyboard shortcuts as they actually make sense in OS X and relate to each other i.e. quit "command+Q" and close "command+W".

CLI commands are sometimes given to troubleshoot a problem quickly or to add a "hack".
