Does anyone know the difference between restarting the iphone (hold the power button until the red "Slide to power off" slider appears) and rebooting (hold the home button and the power button together for several seconds).

When I do both, the same thing appears to happen when I turn the phone back on, i.e. I get the Apple logo for a few seconds then the phone comes back on.

Just curious what the difference is, is something different happening internally?

Difference is like shutting down your computer and doing alt+ctl+delete.

One is like flipping the switch on the computer, the other is hitting the physical reset button (which disconnects power from the computer for a second). There is no software only reset (like Ctrl-Alt-Del).
