I think that's a dell thing, I've owned a number of Dells in my life, and like clock work, if I put it to sleep, put in my bag. It will be scorching hot when I finally pull it out. I've had numerous models, I now just completely shut it down before I get ready to travel, even if its a short trip

Quite possible- I don't use Windows systems other than what work provides.

Many past employers were all Dell laptop and workstation shops. I never have liked the keyboards, trackpad or pseudo "power management". Thankfully my current gig dealt me an M3 Air last year so I rarely have to even power up the Dell anymore.

Seems that way with a lot of Windows-based laptops in my past. Of course the one that did it the most was a Dell (how are they still on the market?). My mom's Chromebook ran cooler than that piece of junk, and that was just watching YouTube and listening to music!

Because of the nature of my job, I can’t shut it down since Windows takes an eternity to come back from the dead, even on new hardware (32GB Lenovo Core Ultra 7). I basically need quick access for customers. I typically have to restart every few weeks because of typical Windows jank that happens over time. But that’s not the half of it; I have daily backend updates that occur, Chrome updates, and Office updates. It’s update hell 🤣

With the Neo out, I’ve legit thought of buying one on my own just to use for work. I loathe Windows the more I’m forced to deal with it. It’s 2026! Sleep shouldn’t destroy a computer when the one in my hand has zero issues with it.

Case-by-case.

Some Windows Apps do have the bad habit of corruption as time passes, so a regular boot clean the gunk up.

I do reboot mine regularly maybe a few times a week when I notice my box is not going to sleep by itself, it's configured to do so.

Yes - Windows continued use of spaghetti registry entries and IE still lurking under the "Edge" hood (most notably when the new & improved browser crashes) are clear indications to stay away, if feasible of course 😀

Well, as an engineer, my advice is to always start your electronics in a KNOWN STATE! By rebooting (or starting up after shutdown), your device, OS, et cetera is in a know state. This works for computers, phones, laptops, TV, printer, or even a toaster!

I always start my devices in a known state.
That is, the state I left it when I finished using it the day before.

By your logic, one should shut down every time they go for a coffee, or when they need a toilet break.
If you don’t do it in those situations, why would you do it overnight? What’s different?

We are not in the 1990s anymore.

If I'm not using it , my computer's are shut down . The couple of seconds it takes to turn them on isn't going to make any difference to me one way or the other . They're no different than any other power tool , if you're not using it , you turn it off.
Do you unplug your microwave oven when you're not using it? Your television?

When I was in IT, at some point our Midrange mainframe would slow down to a crawl because we were throwing too much tasks to it. No looking a manager came in and thrown the off switch in the attempt to reset it, we saw but it was too late. The dang mainframe took a whole day to reboot and longer to rebuild the database. It was fun times.

One of the apps I never have an issue with is edge. Early on I had to use chrome when things would not work in edge. Now it's edge for 99 percent of things I do. I have brave installed when I want a real ad blocker available to me.

This is the error the belches from my (ManageEngine maintained and meticulously kept up-to-date) Dell laptop occasionally. The old IE junk still lurks under the hood.

yes, not sure of the reason, it might be to irritate the IT mafia - if that is the case it works

Yeah I don't even really use sleep mode. I have the screen turn off, and then straight to hibernate (after a couple of hours)...

I have a work-issued Dell laptop and it sleeps just fine. It hasn't been rebooted in a couple weeks, and it's always quiet and cool when pulling it from my bag. Latitude 5430.

Had it for three years.
