Lots of things in this world are tacky and offensive, but I've got to say that is just freaky ahah. Sitting there staring at that glass encased bust would just bother me. (Tho I liked the idea above about the breakdancing pope!)

I'm curious about the Buddha mentioned above. Why is it offensive? Is it the placement of a spirtual figure out of context? I keep a little Buddha under my cinema display.

The story I was taught of the Buddha on his path to attaining enlightenment says that he deprived himself of pleasures such as food, eating but one grain of rice a day. So to me a statue is is out of place in a restaurant.

It's interesting that a popular representation of the Buddha is of a fat and happy one. My parents have a couple of these little statues in their home. The idea is to rub his belly for good luck. So that may be the intent of the Buddha statue at Little Buddha.

There's another representation of him "raising the roof" if you will. Arms raised upward over his head with palms facing the sky. My friends bought me a t-shirt with this image and the caption "give it up for peace" and that doesn't offend me at all.

I've been there, I'm Catholic.

I wasn't offended by the Pope Table and its decor. The restaurant is trying to have an old-world Italian look, and its hard to imagine Italy without the Pope and Catholicism, now isn't it? Yes it's a chain restaurant, everything is a little mass-market. I really don't think John Paul II (God rest his soul) would be angry over the Pope Table. I would have been more surprised had they not removed the bust. I hope they replace it with the next Pope. <shrug>

As for the food, I suppose I must have a rather blue-collar dietary preference in comparison to the sophisticated and cosmopolitan palettes resident here, but I found the food pretty good. Not homemade "authentic" Italian, mind you, but quite good.

LOL good god is that picture cheesy

seriously what has the pope to do with a restaurant ? i've never seen such an open displaying of religion in an italian restaurant over here or in italy ... i as a catholic find it a little bit blasphemic as well..together with that turnable thing on the table ... that's not really typical italian either ;)

anybody has more pictures from the rooms for further judgement ? ;)
