I have a question I hope some of the more health/science/exercise minded here can help me answer.

What is the difference between Active and Resting energy (as recorded in the Health app via the Apple Watch Activity app)?

Am I right in thinking Resting Energy is how much my body burns if I laid in bed all day and didn't move? If so, how does Apple calculate this for me?

Am I right in thinking Active Energy is how much my body burns via exercise? Or is it all movement? How does Apple calculate this and how accurate is it?

To take this further, if the Health app says I've burned 2100 calories via Active Energy and another 2400 via Resting Energy, does that really mean I've burned 4500 calories in one day (and thus, if I'm only consuming 2000 calories of food a day, I'm losing 2500 calories a day in weight)?

Thanks for the help.

Resting Energy should be based on your height and weight, and show be the amount of energy your body needs just to be alive. Active Energy should be calories you burn beyond that with activity.

You might need to verify what you have for height and weight.
