Hi all,

I have a 4s currently jb to 5.1.1. It started life as 6.1.3 (I have the blob for this), I have recently decided to upgrade to 8.1.2 but when I try and restore to 6.1.3 I keep getting errors 3194 or error 11. I have tried tiny umbrella, and iFaith doesn't seem compatible.

Is there anything I can do to restore or is my phone destined to remain on 5.1.1 for the rest of its days.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks

You cannot restore it to anything but what Apple is signing. At this time, that is iOS 8.2.

Thanks for the prompt response, I have tried that also and it still won't update. The phone is working fine so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong , any ideas?

Remove the line from your hosts file that contains gs.apple.com

Using tiny umbrella has redirected to a spoofed apple server making you unable to restore through iTunes. Removing that line will fix your issues.

Correct, make sure your hosts file points to apples servers.
And then plug it in and hit restore.
That will bring you to the latest ios versions.
No way to restore or update to anything but the latest signed ios version.

thanks guys, its gone from bad to worse now I am now stuck in a loop, I can get into DFU mode but nothing not even TU can get me out , seems I now have a brick unless anyone can help me

Hi, I tried that and now get error 3014.
This is a copy of the host file

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost

Are you pointing to an IPSW? If so, don't. Just plug it in while in recovery mode and let iTunes download and install the appropriate one.

hi thanks for the response, no I'm not pointing to ipsw just clicking on update. Its very strange and has stumped me

Do not click update.
You're supposed to click restore like we told you 10 times above.
RESTORE.
if you're hosts file is messed up then use another computer with itunes to restore it.

open http://gs.apple.com in your default browser. If you edited the HOSTS file correctly, it should redirect to Apple.
If it opens cydia then your hosts is still messed up.

Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. FollowiTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
