My Iphone was getting the nasty 1002 error every time a tried to restore. I thought my Iphone was stuffed until i tried this:

1. Download Quickpwn 2.2
2. Open Itunes, try to restore
3. Get the 1002 error
4. Open Quickpwn
5. A popup should come up saying that you need to restart your Iphone/Ipod
6. Follow the instructions
7. When you see the Apple boot logo close Quickpwn
8. Your Iphone/Ipod should boot up normally and itunes will recognise it as a new iphone/ipod

Has this method worked with anybody else?

Wow thanks. I didn't actually do what you mentioned above... but it gave me the idea for what i had to do. It turns out the iphone was already restored but just stuck on restore mode. So i just jailbroke it and it worked :D

I used blackra1n. This should definitely work with redsn0w as well.

I registered to say thank you and to verify this works.

You just got me $20 so i could fix/jailbreak his phone. Thanks alot.
