"Restore from a backup of iPhone"

I'm setting my new iPad up, and I see this option. Does it work? What does it do?

it will restore your last settings. but why on iphone? you should backup your ipad first before screwing up everything.

I know what the restore option does, but I'm just wondering what it could restore from a backup of my iPhone.

I'd imagine it would restore things like your sync settings for music, video, contacts, calendars, mail etc and settings saved within iPhone apps.

I got this same message the first time I sync-ed my iPad. I chose setup as new, but like the OP, I am curious what would've happened if I chose to restore from a previous backup of my jailbroken iPhone?
