I took a restore of my hard drive using disk utility (File -> New Disk Image)

I now replaced my hard drive and fired up computer in target disk mode. I'm using my other computer with the backup dmg to try to restore using disk utility.

I keep getting the error that "Unable to scan "new hdd" (resource busy)

Any ideas?

Do you still have your old HDD and can access it via a 2.5" S-ATA HDD USB enclosure perhaps?

While Disk Utility is a good tool to make backups, sometimes backing everything up into one file (DMG) is not a good idea, in case that one file gets corrupted.
