Restored from my iP6S+ backup which is a device that did not support HEIF/HEVC.

Under storage, my overall used space went down, but specifically (to eliminate caches/temp files from the equation), the amount saved if I moved my photos (videos) to iCloud went down ~9GB.

So it looks like the photos repository shrank, and the restore process applied the new HE|IF/VC compression to existing content.

Existing photos and videos aren’t converted to HEIF/HEVC, So I’m not sure where your savings is coming from.

That's exactly what I was wondering, I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere (or in any dev docs or such), but clearly there's a notable change in the amount of storage being indicated for photos specifically. I even made sure to purge "deleted photos" in case they were being counted on the 6S (and not saved as part of a backup).

Wonder where the additional space came from? Also, both running 11.1.
