restore your iPhone's firmware to 312, then, if it's stuck into Connect to iTunes screen, run RecBoot, and then unlock with blackra1n if you have to. In my case, I didn't need running RecBoot, blackra1n did the thing just great. Everything takes 10-15 min with the firmware restore being the longest part.

I followed the instructions shown on the URL:

But it failed to load the previous version, I downloaded and tried v 3.1, 3.12 and 3.13) got a few minutes into each of them, then told me that it failed. I never got to the point where I could run RecBoot.
Would appreciate any other suggestions. Thanks.

If its a 3G you can just download an official 3.1.2 ipsw and restore to that thru itunes.
If you're on 3GS you cannot downgrade your firmware unless you have your SHSH's saved for the particular firmware version.
