Restore to OS without using TinyUmbrella?

Found this tutorial and looks to be simple. Does it sound about right? I can restore to 4.0.1 (file on Mac) without upgrading with this tutorial?

Yes. There's two way to point to Cydia's server. One is manually edit your host file while the other is using Tinyumbrella to do it. The advantage of using Tinyumbrella are you can tell which SHSH blobs you have saved, one click to point to Cydia's servers and ability to kick phone out of recovery mode if phone gets stuck during restoring.

Yes. If Cydia has SHSH blobs for the firmware you want to restore to.

I tried this on my 3GS (without Cydia saved SHSH) and it didn't work. Any ways to downgrade to 4.0.1?

Did you read the disclaimer? It says you need your SHSH saved. Step #2 requires access to them.

How else would you downgrade? That's the whole point to having your blobs saved.
