restore TXT from 3gs backup to iphone4

I only want to restore text messages. Sometimes those backup iphone files have crap in them i don't want.

i remember doing it before, extracting txt's from a backup. Can't seem to find it.

As far as I know, back ups don't store text messages in the first place.
