Dear all,

if I restore from TimeMachine, is the ssd formatting during this process?

Best regards,
Fabian

Time Machine will not format the SSD. You will have to use Disk Utility to correctly format the SSD before doing the Time Machine restore.

Thanks, CoastalOR.

Still getting comfortable with macOS. Where can I find such information? And what will happen, for example, if the ssd is formatted with "APFS" and the Backup is in "APFS (Case-sensitive)" or vice versa?

Best regards,
Fabian

The Time Machine's format has to be "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with a GUID Partition Table (GPT)". It does not support APFS.
This link tells you the needed format for Time Machine in the "Check your drives" section:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204157

Apple has many support articles. I did a search in the Support section:
https://support.apple.com

Here is some general instruction about Time Machine also check some of the links on the page:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201250#setup

There is also information that can be found with a Google search for "Apple Time Machine".

My diction in my second post was unfortunate. Let me rephrase it: The ssd in my MacBook has the format "APFS (Case-sensitive)". Then a backup using TimeMachine is carried out. Then the ssd of the MacBook is formatted to "APFS" and enventually the backup is applied to the MacBook. What will happen?

If I understand your question correctly, you can restore a backup from the HFS+ formatted Time Machine to a APFS formatted MacBook. The restore is copying files from the TM backup to the MacBook. I can't answer about "Case-sensitive", maybe refer back to other thread you asked about it.
