restoring emlx messages to Inbox

Using Data Rescue II, I've recovered more than 1,000 emlx messages from my Inbox that had been lost. How do I restore these so that they display?

I'm able to open the .emlx files up one at a time from Finder, but when I copy them directly into the Mail Inbox, they simply do not display when the mail application is opened.

Running OS X 10.4.11 on a PowerBook G4.
