I got my iPhone 6S plus and did a restore from iCloud. It's now more than 24 hours later and while I got all my apps and seemingly everything else, it says "restoring from iCloud backup" on my home screen still. Any idea of what's it doing and when it will be done? Or how do I get rid of this?

I took my new iPhone to Apple Store or Starbucks they have a fastest wifi/hotspot so I restored it from iCloud back up less than 15 min.

The photos. Your phone is downloading your photo library, one photo at a time. It takes ages. That's why an iTunes backup and restore is still recommended if you have a huge photo library.

Agree. Although I am using iCloud backup, I choose to sync my songs and photos through iTunes.

I use iCloud backup literally as a backup solution, in case my phone is damaged to an extent that it cannot be read by the computer anymore or if it's stolen. For switching phones, I still use the traditional iTunes backup and restore process since it is much much faster. The problem is that iTunes no longer backup apps on the phone which slowed down the process a lot. Anyway, I find it unacceptable for iCloud restore to require downloading back the photos one by one after the phone is restored, it can take days in my experience.

Yes, restoring photos take ages. That's why I frequently sync my photos to iPhotos (at least once a week). Better safe than sorry.

I guess that makes sense. I'll do the iTunes way next time. My photo library is about 3,000 photos or so. I guess iCloud servers must be slow as I'm on a 100mbps connection at home. Thanks guys!

Yea photos take the longest. I since switched to iCloud photo library and this time around it only took 10 min.
