Your games saves are more important than having a clean and smoothly running phone?
Restoring from an old OS is always a bad idea.
I was finally able to access the home screen and mail, messages, etc. But for some reason my apps are disappearing as the restoring continues. It's there initially and then as they are restored, one by one they are gone from my home screen. Slightly concerned...has this happened to anyone?Mine has been running for 5 hours. My backup was 9GB. All if my apps are there, but it seems my photos aren't done yet as when I go into it, I see "downloading". I rebooted and its not speeding it up. I assume it's Apple's servers getting hammered.

New hardware, new OS....do not restore. Start new.
i would love to do this but i do not want to loose my texts, wish there was a way....
i saw that, i also have phoneview on my mac that stores all texts + such
is it really true that just setting up from restore is such a bad thing?
it is way easier!!
I haven't done it in years, but I know in the past there were always problem apps and people that restored from a backup on a previous OS had more issues than those that setup clean.
However, perhaps those observations are no longer relevant. Either way I still prefer to setup new when I get a new model and new OS.
enjoy your new toy!!
