You cannot restore a backup of a later version of iOS (in this case 7) to a device running a lower number of iOS (6 in your case). You should have made a backup (plus a desktop copy in case iTunes copies over it) of the iOS 6 running device before you experimented with the beta! It's really common sense, but it eludes users here for some reason. You can get your info back once you either a). Return to an iOS 7 beta or b). When the official public release is available. When I use betas I make a backup of the official software first in iTunes, plus another copy on the desktop, plus I turn off iCloud backups for the duration of the betas.
Ps. You can restore from backup using iTunes when using betas. It will not lock out your device if the UDID is not registered.

Thank you captain obvious! I don't think he asked anyone to tell him the mistake he made I think he was asking how to fix it. Not everyone has done this more than once. If you have a way to get around it that great if not what is the point of even commenting on here? Just to say how cool you are because you thought to make a backup on the computer? I NEVER even connect my phone to the computer anymore. That's the point of the "over the air" updates, right?

What can I say? Some people use iTunes, just iCloud or both. I use both. If the OP had used both they wouldn't have had to create a thread for help. Just saying. Personally I think it's a lot quicker to restore using iTunes as the apps are stored there and don't need to be downloaded again. So for that reason and because I sync books and PDFs from my mac (which iCloud does not store - if not purchased from iTunes), I use iTunes mainly.

I used iCloud to backup my iPhone, the file was going on for 1.7GB, which (bad as it sounds) I couldn't afford to keep on my Mac.

Just for reference, the last iCloud backup was this morning, effectively overwriting my iOS 6.1.4 backup.

iCloud keeps the last three backups. When you are restoring you'll see the last one and then 'show older'

Workaround?

For anyone who still has this issue (esp since the developer site is down even if you have paid) I was able to find a workaround:

I put my phone in restore mode and told iTunes to restore and update to 6.1.3. When it was done, I told it to set my phone up as a new iPhone then canceled the sync with iTunes and just clicked on my iPhone at the top again where it brought up the backup/upgrade/restore page. I hit "upgrade" while holding down option and picked the newest iOS 7 (beta 3) .ipsw file. After it upgraded, it still let me set up my new phone like I had started the process from 6.1.3 but it let me select the iCloud backup made while I had iOS 7 beta 1 installed. You'll either a) be stuck with 7 or, b) be able to make a manual backup of your stuff on iTunes from 7, downgrade again, and wait a couple months for the official iOS 7 release to restore your things - but either way, you won't permanently lose your pics and stuff. Hope this helps!

I downgraded to iOS 6 without losing any data apart from my iMessages. I got iOS 6 using the steps explained in this thread (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1611358/).

No need to back up or anything this way however it caused a lot of my apps like Instagram to crash so I made another back up on iCloud which had the new iOS6 and then restored directly from iPhone and used the iCloud back up.

Everything is working perfectly now. All my apps and data got transferred except my iMessages which isn't a big loss. :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH

I have been working at this all day and couldn't get back into iOS 7 where I was able to restore my icloud backup and feared I was going to lose everything and have to go back to ios 6 ( I know I know I should have kept a ios 6 backup). But I saw this and it worked like a charm! Thanks!

If it was just this morning you might be in somewhat luck as iCloud keeps three backups for each device. You'll potentially be missing some stuff but one of the two prior might work

Not sure what I am doing wrong here. I can see my contacts in iCloud on the iCloud site, I turn off Contacts and nothing happens ( I assume that is because they are all gone on my phone). However when I turn contacts back on, I do not get a Merge option and no restore is happening. On ios 7.0.3. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
