I'm on iOS 9.2.1 but I updated to it OTA. I'm staying on 9.2.1 for the jailbreak but they require that your device updates through iTunes. Can I "upgrade" through iTunes to 9.2.1 like normal by clicking shift and update and clicking on the ipsw file without doing anything else?

As long as that version is still being signed it should still work. Why do you need to update through iTunes again though?

Need to do it through iTunes because I'm waiting for the jailbreak and they require that it was updated through that process or else problems later on may occur.

I don't know the technical reasons why but it seemed like a lot of the time, devices that were updated OTA had problems being jailbroken.
