I want to pull data from my .mac, and restore it on to a computer. i checked the settings but there is no indication of that in there? How do you know that it's doing that? will it prompt me if i press sync? i don't want to erase the data

In the Advanced tab of .Mac in System Preferences, there should be a Reset Sync Data button. If you select your Mac from the list above this, and press the button, you should be able to get your data back from .Mac. 🙂
