You can re-install the Operating System otherwise known as an Archive Install. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710?viewlocale=en_US You can also backup via Time Machine, then wipe your local Harddrive, install a fresh copy of OSX and import all your settings.

agentphish macrumors 65816 Sep 7, 2004 1,140 0 Jan 8, 2011 #3 Erase and install is truly restoring it to factory. Not archive and install. If you are on 10.6 the archive install always happens unless you personally use disk utility from the boot cd to wipe the drive first.
