Restoring text messages

Is there anyway to just backup and restore text messages only? I would like to do a clean install but not lose any of my text messages over the last few months either.

I had to use iphone backup extractor and I took the data from my large backup with a clean backup and merged them together. It is a bit tricky but it worked.
