On the rMB, you have the option of four different scaled resolutions by default. The default resolution is 1280x800, with the "More Space" option giving you 1440x900. There are also two "Larger Text" options with even lower resolution available. There is a way to add more resolutions, though, see this thread. Personally I'm running 1536x960 on my rMB.

Option-click on "Scaled" doesn't display additional resolutions on laptop Macs using the built-in display, only desktop ones. Not sure why Apple didn't choose to make this behavior consistent on both.

Scaled resolutions work on my old MacBook using the built-in display.
