Is the Retina MacBook Pro with 2.7ghz, 16gb Ram, 768HD sold in stores? I thought I saw a picture of it advertised on an in-store iPad, but the guy at my Apple store said it was only available online. Thanks!

I saw the same thing in my local Apple store. They list three models. The two standard configs that are on the online store, and a top of the line config with 2.7 GHz cpu, 16 GB ram, and 768 GB SSD. If I remember right, it was $3749.

They didn't have any model in stock. I asked if those were the three models they were going to stock and he said yes.

Has anyone heard of a store getting these in yet? None of the stores near me have even received one of these fully decked out versions in store.

I've been calling around for the last few weeks and none have had it in stock nearby, just the 2 base models.

different answers

I asked different Mac specialists at my local store that question and received different answers.

Apparently, if it appears as a listed item on their iPad info display next to each product for sale, then they believe they should receive them in store (due to previous history), but just don't have them yet due to heavy demand. Other specialists think that the need to customize (bto) the standard configs on the online store mean that they will only be available as bto options, thus not available at your local store.

I don't think they even know what will happen, and are waiting to see.

I was at the Mall of America store this morning, and they had some rMBP's, but they only carry the 2 vanilla models with 8 gigs of ram. Anything else, and you have to special order it.

I'm going to wait for the rMBP 13" model unless they don't offer a 13" with 12 or 16 gigs of ram. Even though the 15" is extremely tempting.

I talked to an employee at our local store about this today. I want 2 maxed units, with One to One, and no sales tax. To get that combo I have to drive across the state line into South Carolina on tax free weekend (first weekend in August) and make the order at their mall store. When the units come in X weeks later, I have to drive back to South Carolina to pick them up. So two 6 hour round trip drives...to save over $500 in sales taxes. My wife has family near the South Carolina store...so she is happy. And if the wife ain't happy....

Thank goodness for tax free weekend!!! :D

I called 2 major stores in Houston today and they both "claim" that only the two base models will be available in stores, the 2.7ghz version will only be available online.

I'm not sure this is accurate, can anyone comment?
