Well I spent two hours in Gimp (Like Photoshop) Making this mock up, I wanted to see what a folder Icon would look like. (Hey I haven't used Gimp in ages) I Tried to make it accurate pixel for pixel what it may look like on the retina display. Please don't laugh at my wi-fi symbol, that was near impossible to make, (With my gimp abilities atleast).

EDIT: You have to understand that actual size looks huge on your computer screen, because this is representing a 326 ppi screen.

Hey, a fellow GIMP user!

Good job. If that's anything close to the retina display (which I believe it is), then that will be an incredible difference.

Ipl blow it up when I get home. I feel stupid for making the mockup now :p. Meg it got the creative juices flowing kinda. Haven't done any photo editing in a long time.

That doesnt make sense, cmcclure16, because you resized the 3GS using Bicubic sampling. You need to resize it linearly so that 1pixel = 4 pixels for it to be a valid comparison.

Did the Notes icon always have its first page ripped off? Maybe I just never noticed it due to low resolution.

Somene beat me to it

Though it used interpolation. (gimp calls it that)

Pixel for pixel it would look more blocky And less blurry.

Has anyone noticed that Apple has left 3 spaces for Apps on the Home screen
I was thinking iBooks and iMovie but what else?

Maybe a more accurate comparison would be making the large image smaller? I'm not a graphic guy... don't know how all that works.

Great job on the mock up (I used to use gimp too, before I finally bought photoshop)

The retina display looks great

but how about a picture of the retina display next to the normal 3gs resolution but scale down the retina to the same size as the 3gs, because the screen size hasn't changed and that's where the real test is (Don't know if that made any sense)

I don't know if that was intentional as much as it was cleaning it up a bit and showing off another feature.

I plan on putting all the "iStore"s in one folder also.

There is no way to simulate the high pixel density with a photo. So we're doing the opposite, making the high density picture the same density as our screens, which means making the 'retina' screenshot twice as big.

If you made the 'retina' picture smaller, then you lose any effect of the high density because the monitor itself has to be able to display that high density.

Yup. Never noticed it either, but upon examining my iPod more closely I can definitely make it out.
