I know 4k Bluray is a long way off (supposedly arriving around the Christmas season next year) and details are unknown but is it likely an eventual external 4k bluray drive will work with the Retina iMac? (either in OSX or Windows via bootcamp).

I'm thinking of buying a retina iMac but would want to be able to watch 4k Bluray on it in time. Would the current USB or Thunderbolt connectors support sufficient bandwidth for the signal? I'd like to buy a retina iMac sooner but if needs be I might wait till the Skylake version.

There were USB 2 Blu Ray players, so USB 3 should be fine as it is expected to only need double the bandwidth (quadruple the number of pixels, but H.265 is twice as efficient).

As for software, it will probably be like Blu Ray is now and need third party apps on a Mac.
